LHS CHOIR DIRECTOR - Alicia Moore Owens is in her twenty-ninth year as a public school educator. A graduate of Dallas Baptist University, she has developed choral programs in DeSoto Independent School District and Ennis Independent School District. In 2002, Mrs. Owens joined Mansfield ISD’s Summit High School as Choral Director at its newly opened 5A high school.

Her choirs have received Sweepstake ratings in UIL, have included numerous All State Choir members, and have had a group perform for the Texas Music Educators Association. Along with these honors comes having an invitation for a showchoir to perform for the National Showchoir Cup Festival in Branson, MO. Mrs. Owens choirs have received superior ratings at such festivals as Houston, Texas, Winter Park, Colorado, Los Angeles, California and various other venues. The Summit Chorale was invited and performed in St. Paul’s Cathedral in London in the spring of 2006.

Mrs. Owens counts among her career and personal achievements a trip to Jerusalem, Israel, to perform Handel’s Messiah with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the opportunity to study with the private vocal coach of Luciano Pavoratti, and attending the Carnegie Hall Festival Workshop.

Her professional affiliations include the Texas Choral Directors Association, Texas Music Educators Association, Alpha Phi International Fraternity, Delta Kappa Gamma (Women Educators) and the Texas Music Adjudicators Association. Mrs. Owens has also been past Region XX Vocal chairman, Region XX Vice-President and Area Vocal Chairman. Mrs. Owens was the 2004 recipient of Baynard H. Friedman HUMMER Hero Award for being the most outstanding Vocal and Choral Music Teacher in the North Texas area. Additionally, she holds the position of Minister of Music at the First United Methodist Church of Palmer, Texas.
